Hello my name is D’morien Williams but I prefer to go by Dmo; I am a self taught artist based in Houston, Tx. I’ve had a passion for sketching & painting for as long as I can remember, probably around the age of 6 or 7 years old. I’ve always been captivated by the magical ability to breathe life onto a piece of paper with a simple mechanical pencil. Over the years, I’ve specialized in hyper-realism and various pencil drawing techniques. My mission, in every project, is to bring the emotions and essence of my subjects to life on paper.
My mother has this amazing talent where she can look at an image, mentally study it and then put it onto paper by just looking at it. As a little girl watching my mother draw and paint realistic figures was fascinating to me. I would ask so many questions and as she saw my curiosity grew she answered those many questions, offered tips and supported my little hobby. As I managed through middle and high school I eventually ventured out and tried other hobbies and activities like sports and school clubs; somehow I’ve always gotten drawn back to art.
Experiencing my own trauma and learning more about art and life as a 23 year old, I’ve noticed that art isn’t just a pencil and a piece of paper. Understanding what art means to you is understanding what it is to create. In other words, my words, looking around you right now everything is considered a “piece of art” created by someone or something. The world as we know it and everything in it is a masterpiece itself that influences humans to live and make decisions in their own way. Understanding art techniques, the different stroke patterns, types of paint/paint brushes to use and most importantly understanding patience will open your mind to understanding and seeing that life is just the same. Life is art and art is the influence of creation.
Utilizing my preferred mediums of pencil drawings and acrylic paint, expressing myself through my original and inspired art pieces from other artists focusing on human experiences and emotions. My work delves into internal questioning about depression, self-love, acceptance, and personal growth. My favorite subjects to portray are human figures, with a particular focus on black excellence, highlighting their struggles with a positive and empowering message of healing, acceptance, and the courage to shine.
Through the creative process, drawing has become an escape into my own world, a frozen moment in time for self-expression and therapy, an experience I wish to share with the world through my body of work. When I’m not drawing or doing tattoos Journal/writing poetry, reading books, listening to music and creating inspirational content for social media community.
